Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides emergency medical treatment including the injections of drugs and medications and intravenous fluids to injured, sick, or incapacitated persons
Operates an emergency medical vehicle
Lifts, carries and transports injured, sick or incapacitated persons from residential or accident scenes to medical facilities
Examples of Duties
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Restores, defibrillates and stabilizes heart rhythm on pulseless, nonbreathing patients
Monitors cardiac patients using an electrocardiograph machine
Administers injections of medications and drugs according to established protocols
Initiates intravenous fluids to administer medications and drugs, or to replace fluids lacking in the body
Performs endotracheal intubation to open airways and ventilate patients
Inflates pneumatic anti-shock garment on patient to improve blood circulation
Observes, records and reports to a physician the patient's condition, reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents
Stabilizes, immobilizes, lifts and moves victims from scene of accident
Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at medical treatment facilities
Operates a specially equipped emergency medical vehicle to respond to accidents and to transport injured or ill persons to a medical facility
FIELD TRAINING OFFICER DUTIES
Assists management in preparing and developing training programs and materials
Conducts training programs and provides technical assistance and instruction regarding medical treatment, medical protocol, quality assurance, policies and procedures, regulations and ordinances
Monitors the work and progress of new hires, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technician-paramedic trainees, interns, students in training program and other employees involved in emergency medical services
Ensures that proper medical protocol is being followed by the on-the-scene medical crew or after the run by retrospective review
Ensures that ambulances are stocked and cleaned; and documents, forms, and other paperwork are completed timely
ADDITIONAL PARAMEDIC INSTRUCTOR DUTIES
Coordinates and teaches training courses, including EMT-P, EMT-B and EMT-FR courses; EMT-P, EMT-B and EMT-FR continuing education courses; and community CPR, First Aid and EMS Awareness courses
Obtains information from persons involved, examines victims and determines nature, extent or magnitude of illness or injury to establish emergency medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance
Performs related work
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or the equivalent
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
Must pass a pre-employment polygraph test
Must pass an annual medical examination as mandated by OSHA
Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment
Must work a varied schedule
Completion of a paramedic training course approved by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure
Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic in the State of Kentucky
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
INSTRUCTOR
Must be certified as a CPR Instructor in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association or obtain within one year of employment
Must be certified as an EMS Instructor, Level II, in the State of Kentucky or obtain within one year of employment
Must be certified as an EMS Instructor, Level III, in the State of Kentucky or obtain within one year of employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Must lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting
Lifts and carries items weighing in excess of 100 pounds in a team setting
-Certification credit of $500 upon position start and an additional $500 upon successful completion of 12 month probationary period
-Parity Pay considered for previous EMS experience based on prior agency call volume
Hiring Incentive Pay:
Total of $8000 broken down as follows:
  • $4000 after training completed
  • An additional $4000 one year following training completion date
  • Initial payments after completion of required training must be made before September 30, 2024
