TITLE: Occupational Therapist (OTR)
LOCATION: District Wide
SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Services, Assistant Director of Student Services, Special Education Adminstrator
SUPERVISES: Certified Occupational Therapist (COTA, L.)
JOB SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist provides a broad continuum of services to schools, from screening and evaluation to consultation and treatment of children with various handicapping conditions, ages 3-21. The primary goal of occupational therapy in the school system is to assist the student in achieving goals as identified on the IEP and to enhance independence in the school environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Screen students to identify those in need of further diagnostic evaluation
  • Conduct evaluations and provide information to team members
  • Recommend general accommodations for all students
  • Provide in-service to building staff on skill development and classroom supports
  • Develop goals and objectives for IEPs and complete IEP paperwork
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team collaborations, and problem-solving meetings
  • Provide direct OT therapy services
  • Provide information to and train teachers and teaching assistants to implement appropriate therapy goals
  • Collect frequent data, monitor student progress, and revise IEP goals/strategies when necessary
  • Contribute to the team's holistic approach to all factors impacting the student in all school settings
  • Submit Medicaid Direct Service data on a timely basis
  • Assist in developing instructional programs (i.e., sensory diets, handwriting, life skills)
  • Supervise and assist in the performance review of District COTA/s
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
  • B.S. in Occupational Therapy, Requires Illinois State Licensure
EXPERIENCE
  • Pediatric experience preferred, two years of experience in a school setting preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185-day contract (teachers' schedule), UEA member, Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION: To be completed as per PNA by the Director of Special Services.
START DATE: August 2024
NOTE: This is an exempt position within the collective bargaining unit. It is not an administrative position.
