Job Summary

The Nurse Residency Program Specialist is a key role within SSM Health, responsible for creating a supportive learning environment for new graduate nurses to develop their skills and progress in their careers. This position serves as a coach and mentor to assigned nurse residents, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop and implement nurse residency programs at the system and ministry levels.
    • Collaborate with clinical educators and preceptors to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Coaching and Mentoring
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to nurse residents, focusing on clinical reasoning and skill development.
    • Utilize integrative learning approaches, including case studies and simulation, to support nurse resident learning.
  • Preceptor Support
    • Collaborate with preceptors to ensure smooth transition from student to professional practice role.
    • Provide education and support to preceptors on assessing, validating, and remediating competency of learners.
  • Departmental Collaboration
    • Collaborate with department leaders to select and evaluate preceptors.
    • Work closely with clinical educators to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Professional Development
    • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing practice, ensuring patient-centered care.
    • Adhere to SSM Health's professional practice model and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Experience
    • Three years' registered nurse experience.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Constant standing and walking.
    • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
    • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
