Summary/Objective:

Using a forklift truck the Material Handler performs a combination of material handling to stack, transport and move to storage work-in-process material and finished goods product. Supplies converting production cells with efficient flow of corrugated board and materials ensuring optimal production efficiencies are met in alignment with our internal and external customer’s expectations.

Essential Functions:

Using production schedule or run sheet verifies converting sequential production order lineup. Transports corrugated board and material to production cells. Monitor production runs throughout shift to determine on-going staging sequence. Notifies Converting Cell Leader when materials are running low or damaged.
Operate forklift by moving levers, controls, hoists, and/or clamp attachment, to ensure timely and accurate receiving, scanning, loading/unloading, stacking, stocking, transportation and delivery of materials or finished product.
Transport non-conforming product to quality staging area or to shredder. Transport scrap bales to staging area and load onto trailers.
Keep the warehouse well organized with material and stock in assigned locations, clearly labeled and marked with correct information, and all tags facing the same direction. Follow first in first out procedure.
Participate with physical and cycle count roll stock inventory and identify inventory discrepancy issues. Utilize scanners for scanning inventory into systems.
Perform routine inspection/maintenance on trucks and record data as necessary on required inspection documents.
Assist in training Material Handlers.
Assist Shipping department as needed loading and loading trailers and rail cars. Verifies truck drivers have properly checked trucks.
Safely and successfully operate the truck following plant procedures.
Communicate successfully with internal customers including Operators, Feeders, etc.
Perform daily forklift inspection and notify supervisor or maintenance of mechanical issues. Perform basic preventative maintenance duties.
Maintains a clean work area including in warehouse.
Comply and follow all health/safety rules and regulations.
Travel requirements: no travel required.

Any other duties assigned to help reach company’s goals.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

Production and Processing - Knowledge of corrugated board types and grades, converting production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Determine quantity and type of corrugated board and materials required for production per corrugated production schedule.
Knowledge of how to safely load and unload material or product to and from shipping trailers with a forklift truck. Knowledge of how to pattern and stack trailers utilizing maximum MSF per trailer.
Knowledge of relevant forklift equipment, policies, and safety procedures, and strategies to promote safety and the protection of people and property in a high traffic manufacturing facility.
Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
Operations Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
Management of Material Resources — Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
Ability to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule with punctual attendance.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
90 days of related experience.
Experience in manufacturing, especially corrugated, strongly preferred.
Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
