Job Summary

The position is needed to maintain a high quality training experience for students in Psychology and Sociology, relative to statistics and research. This is a 9-month appointment with summer teaching opportunities when available.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach various undergraduate/graduate level courses of sociology and related area(s)
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate/graduate students.
  • Maintain creative/scholarly activity such as publications and research.
  • Facilitate student research in Sociology and related area(s)
  • Assist the Department Head with recruitment, retention, and graduation of sociology and psychology majors.
  • Assist with curriculum reviews and analysis in the department/college/university.
  • Attend convocations, commencements, and participate in other official University functions when requested.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Department Head.
Qualifications

Minimum:
  • Candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree in Sociology from an accredited college of university.
  • ABD candidates considered provided completion of degree before time of appointment
  • A commitment to the academic achievement of a racially, ethnically and culturally diverse student populations is required.
  • Evidence of, or potential for, scholarly research, and publications and presentations is required.
  • The ideal candidate is expected to teach courses in the core areas of sociology and in their area of expertise or specialization.
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as SPSS, NVivo or MAXQDA, STATA and SAS etc. required
Preferred:
  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence, potential to secure external funding and specialization or training in the following: Medical Sociology, Environmental Sociology, Digital Sociology, Social Stratification/Social Inequality
