Job Description: Public Affairs Officer

Position Overview: As a Public Affairs Officer for the Professional Football League (the "League"), you will be responsible for managing and executing the league's public affairs strategies and initiatives. You will play a vital role in shaping the league's public image, building positive relationships with key stakeholders, and advocating for the league's interests in the public domain. Your work will contribute to enhancing the league's reputation and ensuring effective communication with various audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Public Affairs Strategy and Planning:

Develop and implement comprehensive public affairs strategies aligned with the league's goals and objectives.

Stay updated on relevant policy issues and industry trends that impact the league's operations.

Collaborate with senior management to define key messaging and priorities for public affairs activities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy:

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, community organizations, and industry associations.

Represent the league's interests in meetings, conferences, and public forums.

Advocate for the league's positions on policy matters, legislative initiatives, and regulatory issues.

Government Relations:

Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that impact the league's operations.

Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies and officials at local, state, and national levels.

Coordinate and support lobbying efforts, including drafting position papers and providing testimony when necessary.

Public Relations and Media Relations:

Assist in managing media relations and serve as a spokesperson for public affairs matters.

Prepare and distribute press releases, media statements, and other communication materials.

Collaborate with the communications team to ensure consistent messaging and brand positioning.

Crisis Management and Issues Advocacy:

Assist in managing and mitigating potential crises and issues that may arise.

Develop crisis communication plans and protocols, ensuring a timely and effective response.

Advocate for the league's positions during challenging situations, working closely with legal and communications teams.

Community and Corporate Social Responsibility:

Develop and implement community engagement and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Identify partnership opportunities with community organizations and oversee related programs.

Support the league's philanthropic efforts and foster positive relationships with community leaders.

Policy Analysis and Research:

Conduct policy analysis and research on relevant issues affecting the league and the football industry.

Monitor and provide insights on emerging trends, legislation, and regulations.

Prepare reports and recommendations to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.

Internal Communication and Training:

Provide guidance and training to league staff on public affairs-related matters.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective communication and alignment of messaging.

Support internal events and initiatives related to public affairs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public policy, political science, communications, or a related field.

Proven experience in public affairs, government relations, or public policy, preferably in the sports or entertainment industry.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.

Strong understanding of government and political processes, policy development, and advocacy strategies.

Knowledge of the football industry and its stakeholders is desirable.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Analytical and research skills to assess policy implications and develop informed positions.

Experience in crisis communication and issues management is a plus.
