Position Summary:  

The Kripalu Shop Manager leads the retailing activities of the Kripalu Shop (onsite and online) and Kripalu Café, supporting the transformational experience of Kripalu’s guests by providing the tools and products that enhance their experience, both during their retreat visit and at home. This position is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations run smoothly and partners with Senior Management to optimize revenue and execute retail strategy. This position also oversees the Mailroom, which serves as the online shop fulfillment center and works closely with the Stockroom and Buying Team.

  Accountabilities: 

  • Hire, train, and continually develop Kripalu Shop and Mailroom supervisors and associates.
  • Optimize staffing and schedules to accommodate fluctuating program enrollment and guest counts. Handle payroll processing according to payroll schedules.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of special events in the shop, including trunk shows, book signings, and vendor product training.
  • In partnership with COO, create and train all staff on Kripalu Shop best practices for Sacred Hospitality to ensure that everyone who walks into the Shop and Café – and who interacts with the shop online has an excellent experience.
  • Develop policies and procedures that support the goals of the department to generate sales, create operational efficiency and safety, and build a positive work environment.
  • Works in partnership with Finance on best practices to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness of all financial processes in the shop.
  • Serve as interdepartmental liaison between the shop and many other Kripalu departments including Finance, Marketing, Program Operations, Guest Services, and Dining and Food Services.
  • Act as point person for retail-related technology solutions, including onboarding, training, and reporting issues.
  • Partners with Senior Management to complete annual budget and forecasts; analyze results monthly; and provide business plans, analyses, and/or proposals that respond to business risks and opportunities.
  • Partners with the buying team to develop overall look, feel, and pricing of products to reflect Kripalu’s mission, values, and programs.
  • Work closely with full shop (buyer, stockroom, and floor teams), as well as Finance and Campus Safety to ensure that loss prevention is a focus; partner with buying team to oversee period spot inventory checks and the full annual inventory count.
  • Maintain business supply inventory.
  • Maintain a culture of best practices in staff and guest health and safety with Campus Safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Prior Experience managing customer service and retail support staff, including responsibility for scheduling and payroll and developmental/disciplinary action.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge and experience with POS software.
  • Available weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and cover floor gaps (supervisor and associate-level) when needed.

Valued but not Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • 5 years managing a dynamic retail environment with a sophisticated product mix; preference to wellness settings.
  • Experience with Resort Suite and Inventory Management software.
  • Experience in e-commerce sales.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to 6 hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to remember product replacement and backstock.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, crouch, kneel, push, pull and twist repeatedly.
