The RK Hall Intern will work closely with the quality control labs, asphalt plants, paving, ready mix plants, and rock quarry teams to learn industry standard practices and gain hands-on experience in many different RK Hall business disciplines.<br /> <br /><strong> Essential Duties and Responsibilities at the QC Lab </strong><br /> <ul><li>Learn how to read and interpret contract requirements for asphalt mix design.</li> <li>Safely collects samples and tests material to ensure all contract specifications are met.</li> <li> Assist with testing and analyzing asphalt mixes using established laboratory procedures and protocols.</li> <li> Record, compile, and analyze test results using computer software and spreadsheets.</li> <li> Participate in quality control and assurance activities to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.</li> <li> Assist in maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment.</li> </ul> <br /><strong> Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Asphalt Paving Crew </strong><br /> <ul><li>Assist in the preparation of work sites prior to asphalt paving, such as cleaning, grading, and compacting the surface.</li> <li>Help set up paving equipment and materials, including placing asphalt mix and operating machinery.</li> <li>Learn how to safely operate and maintain various paving tools and equipment, including rollers, pavers, and compactors.</li> <li>Follow instructions from the crew leader to ensure the quality and accuracy of the work performed.</li> <li>Help with the cleanup and maintenance of the work site after completion of the paving job.</li> <li>Observe and learn safe work practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety regulations.</li> </ul> <br /><strong> Essential Duties and Responsibilities at the Asphalt Plant </strong><br /> <ul><li>Assist in asphalt production, including mixing and heating materials, monitoring temperature and quality, and adjusting machinery.</li> <li>Learn how to safely operate and maintain various plant equipment, including conveyor systems, pumps, and asphalt storage tanks.</li> <li>Help with inspecting and maintaining plant machinery and equipment, identifying and reporting any issues to the supervisor.</li> <li>Participate in quality control procedures, such as sampling and testing raw materials and finished products and recording and analyzing data.</li> <li>Learn about environmental and safety regulations related to asphalt production and assist with compliance.</li> <li>Observe and learn safe work practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety regulations.</li> </ul> <br /><strong> Essential Duties and Responsibilities at the Ready Mix Plant </strong><br /> <ul><li>Assist in producing ready-mix concrete, including measuring and mixing materials, monitoring consistency and quality, and adjusting machinery as needed.</li> <li>Learn how to safely operate and maintain various plant equipment, including batching, mixers, and conveyor systems.</li> <li>Help with inspecting and maintaining plant machinery and equipment, identifying and reporting any issues to the supervisor.</li> <li>Participate in quality control procedures, such as sampling and testing raw materials and finished products and recording and analyzing data.</li> <li>Learn about environmental and safety regulations related to concrete production and assist with compliance.</li> <li>Observe and learn safe work practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety regulations.</li> </ul> <br /><strong> Essential Duties and Responsibilities at the Rock Quarry </strong><br /> <ul><li>Assist in the operation of quarry machinery, such as drills, excavators, and loaders, to extract rock and other materials from the quarry face.</li> <li>Learn how to safely operate and maintain various quarry equipment, including crushing and screening machines, conveyors, and trucks.</li> <li>Help with inspecting and maintaining quarry machinery and equipment, identifying and reporting any issues to the supervisor.</li> <li>Participate in quality control procedures, such as sampling and testing raw materials and finished products and recording and analyzing data.</li> <li>Learn about environmental and safety regulations related to quarry operations and assist with compliance.</li> <li>Observe and learn safe work practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety regulations.</li> </ul> <br /><strong> Qualifications </strong><br /> <br />To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty.
