Areas of oversight include Outdoor Recreation Leadership (ORL), Outdoor Education (OE,) and the Avalanche Science Program (ASP,). This position has direct responsibility for campus adjunct faculty and will work in collaboration with School Deans to support processes for full time faculty. This position evaluates adjunct faculty for excellence in teaching and learning methods and assists in discipline related accreditation and full-time faculty evaluation as necessary or applicable in collaboration with School Deans.</p> <p>This position will emphasize quality instruction as well as student access and success. This position schedules classes, manages permits, and manages a gear room (including purchasing and maintaining gear and food used for Outdoor Studies classes and student rentals, as well as course-issue and de-issue processes.) This position also manages the Outdoor Studies field trip on call system. This system provides 24-hour support while OUT classes are in the field. In brief, this position manages the big-picture vision, overall health, and viability of the program, as well as small logistical details that keep the program running on a daily basis.</p> <p>This position will also be expected to teach 9-12 credits per year in Outdoor Education Studies.</p> <p>This is a year-round administrative, non-faculty, staff position with teaching and on-call responsibilities. The incumbent must be qualified to be credentialed to teach in the assigned areas, however, is not assigned a faculty rank.</p> <p>Hiring range = $82,327.19 - $91,747.65 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Examples of ideal qualifications may include a minimum of a Master's degree and experience in discipline(s) supervised along with two years related experience in administration with demonstrated experience in curriculum development, organizational development, management or instructional systems with at least one year in a supervisory position; minimum of 2 years full-time (or the equivalent in a part-time capacity) teaching experience at the college level or 2 years of documented teaching experience in the outdoor industry or a related field that can be credentialed to teach the OUT courses required of this position, or an equivalent/applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position required. Teaching in higher education strongly preferred.</p> <p>Current certification as a Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT plus CPR required. Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy and combined educational program management and teaching experience equating to two years.</p> <p>As the position also includes teaching OUT courses, qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program or eligible to be credentialed. Some examples of ideal qualifications for ORL could include (in addition to the required WFR/WEMT and CPR):</p> <ul> <li>AMGA SPI</li> <li>Swiftwater Rescue Instructor Certification through ACA or SSI</li> <li>AIARE Instructor Certification</li> <li>BICP or PMBIA Certification</li></ul> <p>In lieu of the above certifications, professional experience in any of the following fields will be given consideration: backpacking, canyoneering, climbing, winter travel, whitewater, mountain biking.</p> <p>Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position include, but are not limited to: a beginning to intermediate level of technical competence in a variety of outdoor skills; competence with spreadsheets, PDFs, word processing using PC platform; proven record of successful project management; highly motivated; proactive problem-solver; excellent written and oral communication skills; well organized; knowledge and experience with federal and state land permit administration, outdoor program management, field course logistics, and budget management skills essential; understanding of state or national licensure/certification requirements for CTE programs; experience with recruitment and supervision of full and/or part time faculty.</p> <p>Welcoming.
