JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: HR Office - Human Resources Specialist
JOB GOAL: To Assist the Human Resources Department with functions to support the efficient functioning of the Arlington Public Schools, and works closely and collaboratively with the Payroll Department, Business Office and other departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This person should possess a consistent demonstration of effective interpersonal relationship skills, which will enable him/her to interact in a professional manner with colleagues, staff, and other stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's Degree in any field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant training or certification is preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in HR or related field preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
  • Ability to use independently and stay current with a variety of computer applications, i.e. MUNIS, EXCEL, Google Workspace, PowerSchool, and other software programs, and to navigate online environments effectively with little supervision in a manner necessary to complete tasks assigned.
  • MUNIS and PowerSchool Experience Preferred.
  • Experience and/or training in payroll processes,earnings, deductions, excellent proofing skills as well as proven organizational skills.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems, Databases and other computer applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work assignments is essential, particularly in this fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Capacity to work in a confidential manner
  • A moderate degree of independent decision-making and knowledge of the function of the work environment.
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures that includes a variety of clerical and/or secretarial duties.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Human Resources and Payroll Departments in various functions.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees, ensuring that all payroll documents are submitted, and identification and backup documentation is present.
  • Assist with the Employee Absence Tracking system, and ensure that absences are properly tracked in payroll.
  • Use technology effectively in all aspects of the job to enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing. handle enrollments, terminations, changes.
  • Maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
  • Perform benefit payroll audits.
  • Perform other administrative support functions as necessary and other duties as assigned.
  • Manages the HR Inbox, triages inquiries to appropriate staff, and escalates issues as necessary.
  • May assist with procurement and accounts payable functions, including requisitions and purchase orders; contracts; purchases; and invoice payments.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
REPORTS TO: Human Resources Director and Assistant Human Resources Director
SALARY/BENEFITS: In accordance with AEA Unit C Contract
