Cooley Dickinson's VNA & Hospice is also a vital part of our network, providing home-based services throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties.<br> <br> <b>MAIN FUNCTION:</b> <br> <br>The Stationary Fireperson 2nd Class is responsible for firing boilers and controlling the generation of a continuous supply of steam for heating and power as required throughout Cooley Dickinson Hospital. The Stationary Fireperson 2nd Class also maintains the Hospital's central chilling plant to assure cooling as needed. <br> <br>This position reports to the Lead Stationary Engineer and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.<br> <br> <b>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</b> <ul> <li>Fire, control and tend high pressure steam boilers, burning natural gas, oil and wood chips assuring a continuous supply of steam for heating hospital buildings, power to machinery and auxiliary equipment, laundry, and sterilizing operations. </li> <li>Conduct required tests to determine water conditions, stack temperature, control water levels in boilers or chilling towers, and assure proper distribution of heat, power, or cooling as required. </li> <li>Operate front-end loader to move wood chips as needed. </li> <li>Rake fire-box grate and dump ash in sluice pit for quenching. Remove cooled ash from pit for ultimate disposal. </li> <li>Clean and lubricate equipment, assist in repairs and perform preventive maintenance as directed. </li> <li>Follow standard safety procedures and regulations reporting unusual conditions to the Supervisor, Plant Operations.
