Position Summary

Under the general direction of the City Development Director, performs advanced professional work concentrating on short-range planning. Incumbent responsibilities include advanced level citywide planning, coordination and representation on various boards and agencies, interpreting concerns of Commission, citizens and proprietors, coordination of the development Permit Application process and the preliminary development application for new development projects. Administers the land development regulations and comprehensive land use plan and their regulations. Advanced professional planning work in carrying out research planning projects; researches and drafts policies including elements for the City Comprehensive Plan, coordinates land-use map amendments. Assists the director with various department projects including negotiations with developers. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports for adherence to established policies and procedures.

Examples of Essential Functions

Administers the City's Comprehensive Plan; prepares reports and recommendations affecting planning and community development.

Presents special projects, studies or other departmental reports before the staff, Advisory Board, City Commission, and representative citizen groups.

Reviews development permit applications; creates forms for permit process and conducts meetings with developers to resolve permit problems.

Receives and processes applications for land use amendments, annexations, variances, rezoning, special exceptions, site plans and PUD amendments.

Administers zoning regulations; prepares drafts of new and amendments to land development regulations.

Serves as liaison and mediator between developers and residents.

Ensures that there are codes and ordinances which relate to the use of land within the community.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in planning, public administration or related field and four years of professional comprehensive experience in urban planning; supplemented by training in zoning and land use; or an equivalent combination of professional training and experience.

Must maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License as required by the position.
