Essex Westford School District (EWSD) has an opportunity for a Full-Time Food Service Assistant within our Child Nutrition Program located at Essex High School . The Food Service Assistant handles diverse responsibilities in food preparation, cooking, and service across schools. They lead meal operations in the Cafeteria coordinator's absence, overseeing a team of 2-3 Cafeteria Workers in planning, ordering, preparing, cooking, serving, counting meals, and cleaning up. Additionally, they contribute to the scratch production team, producing bulk sauces, recipes, and baked goods. The Assistant collaborates closely with colleagues, building administration, and Child Nutrition leadership to maintain a high-quality nutrition program for EWSD students and staff. They also assist in budget management and continuously improve departmental processes through feedback and data analysis, supporting EWSD's goal of ensuring all students are well-nourished and prepared to learn.
Pay: $19.75+ based on experience
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent with 2-3 years of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • The ServSafe Manager's certification is required within six weeks of hire. EWSD will provide the course, and examination, and compensate for the time to become certified.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are strongly preferred.
  • A broad base of knowledge and skills in quantity, food handling, inventory control, ordering, menu planning, quality control methods, preparation, and cooking.
  • Familiarity with the National School Breakfast and Lunch programs is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, and the ability to effectively and efficiently use email, electronic calendars, and word processing programs is preferred but not required.
