1. POSITION FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE:

Performs diverse electrical work within pump houses, substations and stations. Will investigate, test, and repair transmission, distribution, and Hydro Plant equipment.

2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform job planning, material requisitions, job set-up, and completion so that employees and the community are properly safeguarded at all times.
  2. Responsible to see that tools, equipment, and truck stock are sufficient to complete assigned work. Accounts for all material, equipment, and tools utilized for project completion.
  3. Document work and record findings as required. Report to supervisors any abnormal conditions that develop during the process of work.
  4. Promote and follow safety consciousness and compliance. Observes all traffic rules and regulations while operating company vehicles.
  5. Complete all required paperwork regarding work orders and service orders.
  6. Investigate, test, and repair transmission, substation, distribution and Hydro Plant equipment. Equipment includes but is not limited to regulators, circuit breakers, interrupters, transformers, switchboards, SCADA equipment, sectionalizers, metering, relays, Hydro Plant automation equipment, diesel equipment, test equipment, power supplies, and other associated and similar equipment;
  7. Switching and grounding within substations or on electronically controlled transmission, distribution, and hydro plant equipment (such as operation of regulators, reclosers, breakers, and the operation/decoupling of MOD's). These job functions may be performed to complete maintenance, repair, investigation, testing, commissioning, or equipment replacement work as assigned to the classification.
  8. Test, install, repair, or remove primary and secondary transformer rated meter installations, measurement devices, protective devices, and switchboard installations with or without supervision.
  9. Lay out work from wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics with working knowledge of transitory theory and digital circuits. Fabricate and adapt equipment for such uses as testing, controlling, signal generation, etc.
  10. Establish and follow a maintenance program for testing and maintaining transmission, substation, distribution and generation equipment, drawings and records. Report to supervisors any abnormal conditions that develop during the progress of work, make routine reports and requisitions;
  11. Design and fabricate special equipment to test and evaluate electronic controls and equipment. Select and order all necessary components and control equipment as required, work with all system voltages;
  12. Lead, train and direct other personnel to assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment.
  13. Prepare when requested, work orders, etc. for construction and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.
  14. Utilize Cooperative protocol for communication with System Control.
  15. Will reasonably respond to after-hours quality issues and miscellaneous member needs when not actively on-call. If an on-call schedule is implemented within the department the employee must participate as required.
  16. Meet with members as necessary to resolve concerns, as appropriate.
  17. As directed will attend trainings and seminars to increase job knowledge.
  18. Performs other related duties and assumes other responsibilities as requested or directed.

3. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Work is primarily outside and weather conditions can be inclement at times, temperature may range from subzero to high heat and humidity. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions.
  2. Overtime work may be required.
  3. Good physical condition and dexterity is required. Moving weights 100 pounds or more may be required. Medium work requiring lifting, carrying, and moving weights, or using exertion, of up to 50-75 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds of force more frequently.
  4. Must be able to maintain a DOT medical certification card.
  5. Position requires the individual to be capable of stooping, bending, lying flat on the ground, reaching (overhead), climbing, grasping, pushing, pulling, and having the ability to walk long distances, or work in awkward positions and enclosed spaces. The position requires walking in all types of terrain, sitting, standing, and driving/riding in vehicle.
  6. Good hand to eye coordination is necessary, as is the ability to read electronic displays and screens, printed materials, and maps. Must be capable of utilizing handheld and manually operated tools that are coincident with the duties of the position.
  7. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately and possess good hearing as needed for work and safety compliance in a hot line environment.
  8. Must possess visual color perception in order to differentiate wire and part colors.
  9. May be required to operate and/or utilize large trucks with trailers (with an excess weight of 10,000 pounds, but less than 26,001), ATV's, snowmobiles, and boats. May also be required to ride in small single engine planes. j) Motor vehicles, computers, small hand held or mobile electrical instruments and devices, customary office and business communications equipment are utilized in this position. The individual should be familiar with and capable of operating equipment utilized in the construction operation.
  10. Must be willing to submit to alcohol and drug testing per cooperative and DOT policy.
  11. Hazards include working at heights, electrical and radiant energy.

4. ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Reports to the Engineering Supervisor, is also required to report to the Electronic Technician Foreman when working in the field on a project, keeping him/her informed concerning work in progress, completions, and consulting with him/her concerning efficient completion of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  2. Accountable to their supervisor and the management of the Cooperative for the efficient performance of these duties.
  3. Electronic Technicians are encouraged to use initiative and judgment in making decisions, remembering that the Cooperative's best interest can be affected by their actions. Electronic Technicians should feel free to make suggestions for the improvement of operations and efficiency.

5. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

This position is union, non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Non-exempt employees are paid on an hourly basis. Overtime shall be paid per the contractual agreement.

6. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School diploma or equivalence certificate.
  2. Associates degree in electronics or electrical engineering.
  3. Proficient with position specific equipment.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of current electric power line practices, both overhead and underground, distribution, transmission, and electric metering.

7. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must demonstrate knowledge in the following: written and verbal communication, reading comprehension, judgement, decision making, time management, troubleshooting, operation and control, and equipment maintenance.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to speak effectively with manufacturers, service and sales representatives, and employees.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of material resources in order to ensure appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work and completion of projects.
  5. May be require to successfully complete industry specific testing as designated by the Cooperative.
  6. Must maintain first aid and CPR certification as required by the Cooperative.
  7. Proficient use of general office equipment use, including but not limited to: copier, fax machine, computer (iPad or tablet), and other smart devices.
  8. Employee is to perform the essential functions and elements of this position competently with the adequate skills and demonstrated responsibility.
