Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is not required at time of hire. Candidates should be able to obtain a Secret clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a RF Hardware Development Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems in the area of software defined wireless communications in support of our national defense.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

Hardware design of RF based systems including board level schematic design, PWB layout, test and integration with software.  Must have a strong design background of RF filters, couplers, LNA’s, matching networks, hybrids, PA’s, etc.  Must possess a solid understanding of good layout techniques for RF isolation, grounding, impedance control etc.    Familiarity with schematic capture and layout tools is required.  Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition is highly desired. EM layout modeling of circuitry and transitions is also highly desired.  System analysis of receive and transmit lineup modeling for NF, linearity, gain, power, etc required. 

  • Low level schematic and layout design of mixed signal and RF subsystems and components of Software Defined Radios (SDRs) 
  • Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. schematic, PWB layouts, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers .Develops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, team mates and external customers
  • Active participant in electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems.
  • Apply a strong understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or project. 
  • Selects components and equipment based on project requirements.
  • May supervise lower level employees
  • Generally, works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable direction
  • Generally, has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customers.
  • Expected to generate test and characterization plans to validate hardware
  • Work with software and mechanical teams to integrate design into higher level product
  • Experience with antenna design and anechoic chamber testing desired, but not required. 
  • Toolchain:  Mentor, ADS, Matlab, Genesys, EM modeling (Momentum/Sonnet, HFSS)
  • RF Test Equipment:  Network Analyzers, Spectrum/Vector Signal analyzers, Signal Generators, Power Meters, etc.

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Equivalent
