Minimum Qualifications:

-Ability to communicate with engineers, Public Works employees, and subcontractors.

-Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates, interpret electrical specifications, and implement work orders.

-Job requires that alternative solutions be quickly generated to resolve plant power issues including generator troubleshooting, wiring, equipment installation, etc.

-Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, safety, national electrical code, and lockout/tag out.

-Proficient at electrical blueprint reading and electrical circuit diagrams.

-Able to perform electrical maintenance work including plant power issues, distribution, cords, plugs, motors, compressors, etc. and installations including running wires and running conduits.

Job Functions:

-Installs, repairs, and services John Deere Generators and all electrical equipment and machinery;

-Installs conductors, splices cable, builds terminations and does necessary hook-up for primary power lines;

-Lays underground conduit for electrical lines and installs low voltage electric lines and conduits;

-Installs, services and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring;

-Operates, power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment;

-Reads electrical circuit diagrams;

-Maintains a list of assigned and self-generated tasks in the form of a written “To Do” list;

-Properly stores uninstalled material, and work-in-progress materials from weather, vandals, pilferage, or other deleterious causes;

-Maintains good housekeeping practices;

-Uphold and support City of False Pass ordinances and policies;

-Works in a safe manner and takes action to correct or report safety hazards

Required Skills and Abilities:

The plant electrician performs highly-skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with electric utility system. Electrical work may be performed in a number of areas in the facility including heating, motors, fire alarms, electrical panels, and electrical generator plant. Work involves technical application of electrical principles. Responsible for electrical maintenance of plant power issues, distribution, cords, plugs, motors, compressors, etc.

The plant electrician will operate heavy equipment as needed and where necessary. All Maintenance departments require trouble shooting and repair of equipment. They will communicate effectively with the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, City Clerk and other co-workers including federal and state agencies. They will attend City Council meetings when asked and/or prepare reports/updates regarding the Public Works Dept. In the absence of a Public Works Director and Utility Manager this position may be expected to perform this duty as well. All other duties as assigned/appointed by the Mayor and City Council.
