Mystic Scenic Studios is seeking an experienced Controller to join their team in Norwood, MA.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management. This role requires a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and compliance, along with excellent leadership and communication skills.

The Controller will partner with senior leadership to foster and maintain a strong financial culture across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to advance their career toward a C-level position, as they will play a pivotal part in shaping the financial strategies that drive the company’s success.

Controller Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred
7+ years previous progressive accounting experience in manufacturing or contracting industry required; familiarity with construction accounting
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations
Proven experience managing and mentoring a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; expert in Excel
Previous exposure to SAGE 300 preferred, but not required
Strong financial skills and strong working knowledge of GAAP
Strategic thinker and problem-solver with proven experience leading process improvement initiatives
Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated analytical thinking and business insight
Team-player, dependable, willing to do whatever it takes attitude
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, strong multi-tasking and organizational abilities

Controller Job Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day financial operations, including accounting and contract management
Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Oversee procedures and systems to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards and tax reporting requirements
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
Monitor cash flow, manage financial risks, and optimize the company’s financial performance
Collaborate with COO, Office Manager, and Operations Manager to develop procedures that consistently reduce cost and waste
Assess and evaluate the financial performance of various profit centers in relation to long-term operational goals, budgets, forecasts, and industry benchmarks
Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to senior leadership to drive business growth
Maintain relationships with banks and other financial institutions as needed
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations and standards

Founded in 1989 as a 7,500 square foot scene shop, Mystic Scenic Studios has expanded over the last 30 years into a full-service fabrication company specializing in broadcast environments, museum exhibits, high end custom millwork, and restaurant interiors.
