Description
JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Review all overdrawn accounts on a regular basis. Assist members with questions on negative shares. Contact members to avoid charge off per guidelines. Provide regular reporting to management on recovery efforts and negative shares needing to be charged off.
  • Proactively monitors accounts for depositing habits to ensure that Vantage Credit Union is protected from loss in the event an account holder deviates from historical depositing habits.
  • Prepares charge off reports, processes charge offs and account closures for negative shares. Balances GLs and recoveries related to negative shares. Prepares charge off reports and processes account closures for negative shares.
  • Review system generated reports and creates reports. Notifies account holders via written communication when accounts are to be removed from or placed back on the overdraft privilege.
  • Refers all account types for external collections processing as required. Interacts and provides communications with third party collectors while monitoring complaints and other reports.
  • Reports paid and charged off shares to share reporting entities to Chex Systems and Telecheck.
  • Assists in and provides coverage on collection queues and accounts when volume or staffing dictates.
  • Collects early-stage delinquency credit cards.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by Assistant Manager of Credit Resolution or Assistant Vice President of Credit Resolution and Recovery within the scope of the employee's knowledge and ability.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of collection/credit union operations, including lending and collections. This includes an extensive knowledge of all state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Keeps up with industry trends and changes in regulations.
  • Possesses a basic understanding of the overall credit union operations and procedures.
SKILLS
  • Organization Skills-Self-starter with the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule work to meet deadlines.
  • Collections Skillset-Excellent phone, written, and electronic communication for collections.
  • Communication-Expresses self honestly, positively, and professionally in both oral and written communication. Communicates clearly and uses correct grammar and spelling in all communications.
  • Interpersonal Skills- Interacts professionally and positively with Members and staff at all levels cultivating positive relationships that further the goals of the credit union and meet Member needs. Uses tact and diplomacy in difficult situations, approaching conflicts from a positive angle and striving to find a win-win solution by using sound negotiating skills.
  • Dependability-Possess strong sense of ownership and responsibility for job duties in the Credit Resolution Department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Incumbents should possess three to five years of financial institution or collections experience. Credit Union collections experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of checking/share products.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is necessary with additional college work in a business-related field is highly desirable. Routine attendance of credit union industry seminars, workshops and conventions is required.
  • Weekend hours may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires the following physical activities within varying environmental conditions:
  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position which may be standing or sitting for a prolonged period of time.
  • Occasional travel or moving from one office location to another or from one department to another at the headquarters building.
  • Occasional lifting, moving, or adjusting objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Constant communication with others through various channels including verbal, email, and chat of which the last two may require consistent use of a keyboard and mouse or another electronic device.
  • Work will be in a commercially reasonable temperature-controlled environment.
  • Occasional temporary exterior site review which could be in outdoor elements of wind, rain, or snow.
