We are looking for a Staff Acoustic Engineer, Component Technical Lead to drive development of the next iteration of our ultrasonic near field sensors. Nearfield ultrasonic sensors are responsible for detecting pedestrians, animals, and objects near the vehicle. The role involves vendor management and cross functional technical leadership. Candidates should be capable of envisioning the development process, milestones, dependencies, validation activities, and risk reduction activities needed to drive a component development process to completion. You and the Technical Program Manager and Supply Chain Manager of the component will manage cost and timing targets as well as any change requests. Externally you’ll work with industry experts at GM, Honda, and top global suppliers to realize the component and integrate it. In this hybrid working arrangement, a baseline of 2-3 days a week onsite is expected - with bursts of onsite activity in line with hardware deliveries and testing rounds. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: Collaboration with systems engineers, and the DSP lead to refine requirements Collaboration with integration engineers to develop integration requirements Collaboration with electrical and mechanical design teams developing components to meet component and subsystem requirements Collaborate with Product, Safety, and Legal teams to ensure that the product meets all regulatory requirements Development and review of component level and subsystem level test plans Collaboration with reliability teams, testing teams, fleet management teams, and manufacturing teams Leadership of root cause efforts and performance validation of the component and subsystem Partner with Supply Chain Management to build supplier relationships and seek opportunities to reduce hardware development and unit costs Participate in feature/system safety analyses and component DFMEA Evaluate and lead all engineering change orders over the lifecycle of the product Supplier / Contract Manufacturer vendor management & Internal status reporting WHAT YOU MUST HAVE: 10+ years of experience developing acoustic sensing hardware in the medical, consumer electronics, automotive or military space, particularly in high volume applications 5+ combined post graduate experience involving transducers, sonar, radar, array processing or medical imaging Foundations in electrical, acoustic, or in some cases mechanical engineering Experience collaborating with large cross functional teams Clear and concise verbal and visual communication Acoustic testing experience Matlab proficiency BONUS POINTS!
