The CLINICAL DIETITIAN is a member of the patient care team responsible for providing nutritional therapy to patients by assessing nutritional status, developing a plan of care to maintain or improve nutritional status, periodically evaluating the patient's response to the plan of care, and modifying the plan of care as required for optimal outcomes. Counsels patients and/or families about food requirements, eating habits, and therapeutic nutrition. The duties of the CLINICAL DIETITIAN include but are not limited to:

  • Completing patient nutritional assessment and establishing a plan of care for the patient's nutritional requirements; utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the age-specific as well as cultural, religious and ethnic needs of assigned patient population
  • Documenting assessment, plan, actions and patient progress
  • Developing, reviewing, updating and implementing educational materials
  • Serving as an expert resource - collaborating with the multi-disciplinary patient care team on any nutrition related matters
  • Obtaining and documenting initial patient assessments - establishing priorities according to patient needs
  • Participating in care planning and patient rounds

The successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Valid California Registered Dietitian
  • Bachelors degree in Nutrition or related field
  • One (1) years clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian, preferably in a hospital environment (acute and/or long-term care)
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic approaches and principles of Medical Nutrition Therapy and ability to plan, develop and deliver nutritional interventions as well as provide individualized nutritional consultations
  • Ability to assess patients and develop and implement appropriate treatment plan
  • Working knowledge of education concepts / techniques with the ability to educate individuals about eating habits and therapeutic nutrition
  • Understanding of applicable laws, rules and regulations governing dietary guidelines
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organization skills required
  • Basic computers skills
