Clinical Counselor

Purpose: Wafa House is seeking a full-time clinical counselor to perform counseling and crisis intervention for clients. The position entails conducting intakes, screening, assessment, establishing an individual treatment plan, monitoring progress and referral to other agencies, as needed. Supervision provided.
Responsibilities:
  • Interview client's assessment of needs and strengths
  • Develop treatment plan
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Provide accurate information and referral
  • Provide counseling to Muslim/South Asian/Arab victims of domestic violence
  • Provide individual counseling to adults, teens, and children
  • Develop safety plan including danger assessment for victims of domestic violence
  • Provide information on local resources
  • Report and track statistical information to the organization on a monthly basis
  • Assist with other needs in the agency
Qualifications :
• Masters Degree in social work or a related field degree preferred, prior experience/training in a similar program preferred
• Ability to perform accurate assessment of the client's presenting problem and to plan effective treatment for that problem
• Knowledge of standard documentation requirements for clinical casework
• Ability to intervene in domestic violence crisis situations, using sound professional judgement, ethical practice and common sense
• Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic populations
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
• Fluency in the ONE of the following languages is required: Arabic, Urdu, Spanish.

Wafa House is one of the only agencies in the tri-state area that provides culturally sensitive services to the Middle Eastern and South Asian communities. Services are available in English, Arabic, and Urdu. Wafa House has grown to be able to serve many different cultures and we currently serve all counties within New Jersey.
Services We Provide
Mental Health Counseling: Provided in English, Arabic, and Urdu. These services include marriage and family counseling, individual therapy, play therapy, and substance abuse counseling.
Social Services: Case managers assist clients in the following services:

Legal Clinic: Our legal clinic consists of a staff attorney, legal assistants, and Pro-Bono Attorney Network.
