Job Description:
- The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides essential patient care in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting, ensuring the comfort and well-being of residents. Working under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, CNAs assist with daily living activities, monitor health conditions, and provide emotional support to residents. The role demands a compassionate approach, as well as the ability to work nights, maintain a safe and clean environment, and assist with the physical and emotional needs of residents.
Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Help with mobility by turning, repositioning, and transferring residents between beds, wheelchairs, and other locations.
- Monitor vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration) and report any changes in condition to the nursing staff.
- Provide basic skin care to prevent or treat bedsores and other skin conditions.
- Document all care provided in resident charts, including meals, toileting, and activity levels.
- Record and report any signs of illness or changes in a resident's health to the supervising nurse.
- Ensure that residents' care plans are followed precisely and communicate with the care team about resident needs.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized environment for the residents.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of waste, cleaning resident rooms, and keeping common areas tidy.
- Assist with setting up and clearing meal trays, keeping resident areas safe and hazard-free.
- Engage with residents, providing companionship and emotional support.
- Assist in organizing and participating in recreational activities and encourage resident involvement.
- Listen to residents' concerns and communicate them to the nursing team when necessary.
Attendance and Workload:
- This role offers a 48-hour workweek guarantee, with overtime billed after 48 hours. It requires night shifts, which may demand physical stamina and the ability to manage changing resident needs during overnight hours.
Qualifications:
Certification:
- Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of Michigan.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a long-term care setting or similar environment.
- Experience with elderly or disabled populations preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication and observational skills.
- Ability to lift and transfer residents, provide compassionate care, and work as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of infection control and hygiene practices.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Required.
