POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Preoperative Admission Nurse (PAT) assures that all patients are assessed prior to their operative procedure and/or other invasive procedure. The PAT nurse collects and analyzes patient current and past medical/surgical history; coordinates pre-testing, treatments and assessments. PAT nurse educates patients and caregivers regarding procedure and surgery. Works collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologist, surgical services manager/staff and outpatient staff to ensure patient is optimized for surgery. Gives direction to: Patients, families, ancillary staff. Receives direction from: Director of Surgical Services, CNO and Anesthesia staff.
EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 years experience in surgical nursing
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Current State of Montana RN or LPN/LVN License
  • CPR
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Preparation of surgical patients and policy development experience.
  • Needs to be highly skilled in interaction with people at all levels of the organization, especially physicians.
  • Teh Pre-Testing Nurse needs to be highly skilled in clinical assessment of patients' current health status and past medical history.
  • Must possess exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, be customer service oriented and work as an integral part of the team.
  • Requires flexibility, independent thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to handle a busy work load.
