What does the role involve?

The Business Development Director/SR Director is responsible for: Problem solving for your clients, utilizing out of the box thinking to develop innovative solutions Bringing an extensive rolodex of existing contacts in the Bay area Achieving agreed sales and business development targets Creating and implementing appropriate business development strategies for identified target markets. Establishing a pipeline of sales opportunities through your lead generation efforts; suitably qualified for competitive advantage, timing, budget, decision maker. Leading and managing the sales process for leads generated. Leading the proposals development process for all opportunities and the assigned team to ensure that the strategy, budget and proposal language matches the expectations of the client as identified through extensive interactions with these clients. Continually redefining appropriate and profitable market niches for business opportunities, based on evidence. Providing input to the Marketing team to create and implement appropriate marketing strategies that support the business development process and team Providing input to business development leadership based on territory and industry knowledge to develop sales targets, sales strategies and sales plans Working with the George Clinical team to define and implement strategies to support the sales process, including securing resources to perform pre-sales activities Engaging with agents and consultants in other geographic locations to support business development activities in those markets. Engaging with internal research staff to maximize selling opportunities associated with existing travel schedules of those staff Identifying and attending appropriate conferences and trade shows to create business opportunities.

What are our expectations of candidates:

Our ideal candidate will be home-based preferably in the Bay Area To be successful, the Business Development Director/SR Director will have extensive experience in clinical research, probably within a contract research organization, and strategic selling. The Business Development Director/SR Director will need the capabilities and experience to target the following: Primary target markets that include emerging pharmaceutical and biotech organizations in the Bay Area and other territory geographies, pharmaceutical and device companies; and large pharmaceutical companies headquartered in the territory. Core therapeutic expertise in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, renal disease, stroke, neurological disease, critical care medicine Exceptional business development experience with strong track record of achievement of sales targets Significant experience in, and knowledge of, the clinical research industry with a focus on Phase 1 – 4 clinical operations Strategic selling capabilities Excellent communication and networking skills with an ability to build mutually profitable business relationships. Excellent presentation skills Excellent interpersonal skills Highly motivated Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking Strong focus on quality of work and attention to detail whilst maintaining awareness of strategic issues Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organizational priorities and ambiguous environments Well organized with good time management skills Availability and willingness to travel as domestic travel is expected.
