The Resident Assistant delivers essential care to help our Prince William County neighbors in crisis. Floaters will be assigned to work in our homeless shelter to fill vacancies created by leaves of absence, vacation or temporarily vacant positions and to cover open shifts due to emergencies, etc. Resident Assistants are responsible for the safety and comfort of the shelter residents and manage the daily operations of the shelter. They also respond appropriately and professionally to individuals calling the ACTS shelter.  Shifts are scheduled for coverage seven days a week, including holidays during the day and overnight.  Flexibility in schedule is required.

Position: Floater Homeless Shelter Resident Assistant, Housing Department

Salary: $17.66/hour ($18.16 for bilingual fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic)

Reports to: BW Shelter Supervisor

Schedule: Varies – Partial or full shifts of 12.5 hours, day or overnight plus additional hours for required meetings

FLSA: Non-exempt (Overtime after 40 hours), Essential (Work holidays at 1.5 rate), Client Contact: Yes

Essential Functions:

  1. Remain on-premises, alert and available to clients for the entire shift unless relieved with supervisor permission

  1. Maintain documentation for and complete end of shift log/census report. 

  1. In emergencies, contact appropriate aid (fire/rescue or police) and then notify Shelter Supervisor.  Prepare an incident report as soon as circumstances permit.  

  1. Attend regular staff meetings and supervision meetings outside of regular shift hours, in-person or virtually

  1. Maintain a clean, welcoming, warm, residential environment, oversee the shelter’s daily activities and enforce house rules.
