Description

This position works jointly with the City of Hastings Police Department and Hastings Public Schools to assist pedestrians in crossing the street as they go to and from school. This person may also direct traffic as needed to maintain a safe flow of cars and buses into the schools.

Pay is per session, there is one morning session and one afternoon session

Examples of Duties

• Assists and directs students crossing streets in order to provide a safe environment for students to walk to school.
• Suggests improvements in the procedures for students who walk to school and cross the street so that safety methods are continually evaluated and revised if appropriate.
• Promotes safety at all times to minimize accidents.
• May work with the Police School Resource Officer on safety procedures or problems.

Typical Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain a calm demeanor with students and drivers.
• Comfortable working in a wide range of weather conditions.
• Completion of a background check.
