Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Informaticist serves as a knowledge expert for clinical information systems/ information technology department and provider/physician healthcare professionals. This position will provide knowledge and experience-based support to highly visible, sensitive, and multi-faceted initiatives. The APP informaticist will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on physician clinical content, terminologies and clinical decision support of clinical systems, and physician education regarding clinical informatics.

The APP informaticist must have an in depth knowledge of the EMR as a whole, staying current on workflows, best practice and new product and is responsible to continue staying knowlegable on what the product is capable of that NAH could benefit from in the physician practices.

The key role of this position is to optimize the EMR and any relevant technology. The APP informaticist acts as a bi-directional champion for information technology efforts impacting physician workflow and patient care. This role will serve as an advisor to the team that will train, educate and coach. The APP informaticist will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation and use of clinical information systems to assist clinicians in the delivery of the highest quality and most appropriate patient care. This position will analyze EMR utilization and performance data to drive maximum adoption and efficient use of the EMR.

This position, in collaboration with the informatics team, will participate in appropriate meetings to drive meaningful change, decision making and provider engagement. This position will lead the steering committee and MEC informatics meeting. The role is to educate these committees on improving workflows, improving end user education, best options as we upgrade the system, and how we prioritize the acquisition and implementation of new tools that Cerner has to offer. The APP informaticist will build and maintain strong working relationships with the physician community.


Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning
* Analyzes complex clinical operations, organizational structures, and care processes to facilitate decision making regarding EMR design and workflow.

* Gains the support and consensus of physician leadership and regarding information technology needs and priorities and represents these needs in strategic planning.

* Chairs, co-chairs and/or attends governance meetings and steering committees to support decision making for EMR.

* Collaborates with physicians and staff to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education, training, quality outcomes and provides support for those systems.

* Uses analytical applications to review and support the development of trainings and support plans.

Management and Operations
* Promotes evidence-based and efficient practices utilizing technology to support and advance provider workflow.

* Evaluates the impact of information technology on clinical processes and identifies areas to promote the use of technology in creating efficiencies for clinicians and improving quality of care.

* Responsible for timely and accurate communication for clinical system issues within scope. Establishes and maintains strong provider relationships and open communication pathways.

* Translates existing, complex workflows, from a variety of patient care settings across the inpatient and outpatient arena, into logic that enhances configuration of clinical information systems thereby facilitating enhanced patient care and safety.

* Participates in the planning of training as well as tutoring of physicians and staff in the use of hospital information health systems.


Workforce Development/ Leadership
* Provides consultation, guidance and education to organizational leaders regarding clinical documentation systems and best practices.

* Establishes and maintains relationships with clinicians and advocates the use of standardized clinical information systems to support clinical decision support, evidence-based practice, and patient safety.

* Ensures clinical leaders are involved, educated and updated in all matters relate to EMR system changes/updates/projects/changes.

* Serves as an adviser to the CIO, CMO, CNOs or other senior leaders.

* Be a visible champion for the establishment of longitudinal inpatient and outpatient electronic health record (EHR) systems.

* Provides medical leadership in the areas of planning, development, preparation and implementation of strategic and tactical clinical information systems, this may include: core clinical systems, physician order entry documentation, and system wide divisional and departmental clinical systems including the development of a computerized patient record.

* Collaborates with health system clinical staff including physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians and ancillary personnel to effectively and safely re-design clinical care information processes leveraging opportunities for improvement using clinical information systems while understanding concurrent limitations.

* Helps set priorities and delivers clinical information solutions that are practical and effective, obtaining buy-in from medical staff leadership as well as the medical staff at-large.


Personal Knowledge and Acumen
* Continually remains knowledgeable of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations; regulatory standards; the organization’s policies and procedures; and keep track of forecasted changes to federal and state requirements around clinical performance (e.g. Value Based Purchasing, readmission penalties, ambulatory initiatives, etc.) to ensure ongoing success of NAH.

* Remains current with new technologies as well as national and local issues affecting healthcare information technology and their potential influence on the institution.

* Active participants in the Cerner User Group chats and annual conferences and the bringing back of new ideas and recommendations.

* Knowledgeable about non-Cerner add-on products that NAH should consider acquiring and implementing.

Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.


Qualifications

Education
Compliant with education requirements as an Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA, CRNA) - Required
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field - Preferred


Certification & Licensures
Advanced Practice Provider Certification (NP, PA, CRNA) - Required
Cerner Fundamentals and Application Certification within 1 year from date of hire - Required
Lights on/Cerner Advance completion within 1 year from date of hire - Required
Other Cerner certifications as designated or conference to support provider education and adoption - Preferred
Process Improvement Certification - Preferred


Experience
Minimum three years of clinical experience - Required
Minimum three years experience with, understanding of, and working knowledge of EMR workflows and ability to analyze processes - Required
Minimum 7 years of healthcare and or demonstrated critical thinking abilities, analysis and problem solving skills and experience - Required
Demonstrated minimum 2 years experience and understanding of fundamentals of project management, SDLC, ITSM and ITIL process methodologies - Required
Minimum two years experience of demonstrated clinical and leadership influence abilities, and superuser proficiency with inpatient and outpatient systems - Required
Excellent communication and people skills and skilled in process management and management of group dynamics - Required
Demonstrated ability to perform in a team environment, utilizing effective team relationship skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization - Required
Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity and change with proven past experience in managing change process in a previous position - Required
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care.
