Purpose

Define and coordinate the timely and proper design and construction of the civil and structural parts of the upland section of a new Bulk Material Handling Marine Terminal.

  • The upland section includes Conveyor Belts, Stackers and Reclaimers, Train loading stations, Railroads and industrial buildings.

Roles and responsibilities:

The project engineer is responsible for the overall assigned civil and structural section of the project from start to finish, shall coordinate with engineering design firms, coordinate technical evaluation of bids and ensure timely completion of the project while monitoring cost and quality.

The Civil or Structural Project Engineer works together with the Mechanical, Electrical, Automation and environmental Project Engineers as well as with the HSE team and reports to the project manager.

The main responsibilities are: Project Coordination

  • Monitor cost of the assigned parts of the project.
  • Monitor schedule of the assigned parts of the project.
  • Coordinate with the purchasing department to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Engineering
  • Provide project definitions and guidelines to the contracted design firm.
  • Follow up the engineering process and provide additional information when requested.
  • Evaluate technical specifications for purchase of equipment materials and services.
  • Write technical specifications for material of services when needed.
  • Obtain quotes and Integrate budgets for materials and services.
  • Technical Evaluation
  • Support technical discussion and actively participate in the negotiation of contracts for supplies and main services, technically support the process of evaluation and monitoring of suppliers and contractors.
  • Coordinate the technical review of the technical offers received by contractors and suppliers.
  • Construction phase
  • Coordinate and monitor the proper an timely execution of the construction works by the contractors. Report progress to the project manager.
  • Coordinate change management processes.
  • Coordinate project commissioning.

Education: Civil or Structural Engineer (Bachelor or Master's Degree)

  • Project Management training or certification (desirable)

Experience and knowledge:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience.
  • Engineering knowledge and experience in design and coordination of projects involving:
  • Geotechnical analysis interpretation
  • Earthworks and drainage
  • Foundations for:
  • Industrial Buildings
  • Heavy industrial equipment running on rails (Stackers, reclaimers)
  • Railroads
  • Gravel, concrete and ashphalt roads.
  • Concrete
  • Piling and micropiling
  • Use of Geomeshes and Geogrids.
