POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for the preparation and delivery of technical instruction to customers, field service personnel, and other Solar employees in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Solar's products and other related advanced technical topics.

DIMENSIONS:
Contributes to over $10M Technical Training revenue generation for Customer Services and supports the Technical Training Business/Sales Plan by conducting courses for customers, field personnel, and other Solar employees. The incumbent teaches most of the various courses offered globally, including advanced courses, while managing multiple assignments simultaneously from planning through to execution.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Responsible for preparing and conducting complex technical training programs for customers, field personnel and other Solar employees. Typical students attending courses are engineering personnel, maintenance supervisors, maintenance technicians, and equipment operators. The range of technical expertise required to teach these courses includes quantitative analysis/performance calculation of advanced engineering concepts related to Solar products and applications, and technical expertise in the following areas:
•Design, applications, function, and operational characteristics of Solar turbomachinery and associated sub-systems, including commissioning, routine operating procedures, and routine maintenance practices.
•Relay and Turbotronic control system logic and associated software/ documentation.
•Advanced operating procedures, routine through advanced turbomachinery maintenance practices for advanced, non-routine product applications.
•Turbotronic control system intermediate and advanced level programming and maintenance.
•Intermediate to advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques.
•Advanced instrumentation and controls.
•System upgrades, retrofits, redesigns.
•Driven equipment design, troubleshooting, and controls.

Prepares and customizes course content for delivery using various methods including in-person instructor-led, distance learning and hands-on-training. Provides support for eLearning or online seminar type delivery. Supports successful and effective delivery of all training programs with minimal and acts as an instructional lead. Monitors the technical and instructional integrity of training courseware, requiring instructional design/curriculum development skills. Conducts reviews of courseware and obtains concurrence of technical content from technical experts. Project manages and supports combined efforts with engineering and instructional design staff to develop courses for new products and advanced technologies.

Analyzes and researches unique technical requirements to customize student materials in support of courses taught at the customer's site. Has authority to provide direction and information relative to major areas of expertise to modify or change training courses to meet specific customer needs.

While on assignment, the incumbent is self-supervised, and acts as a primary point of contact and source of product information for new and existing Solar customers.

The incumbent has excellent verbal communication and instructional platform skills to convey technical concepts and thoughts concisely to varied technical levels, often in a multicultural environment.

Provides leadership, guidance, and acts as mentor to junior instructors in the areas of product/technical knowledge, instructional skills, course structure, instructional materials customization along with new training technologies and instructional methods.

Makes decisions regarding training facility design and development. Evaluates vendors' products and services supporting Technical Training. Makes recommendations to management for purchase of equipment and/or services.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Technical Instruction
Conducts technical training courses for Solar customers, Field Service personnel, and other Solar employees in a wide range of applications of Solar's entire product line.
Uses various training delivery methods including in-person instructor-led, direct coach/practice and distance learning techniques.

2. Course Content
Researches, prepares, and customizes course content to support complex training programs using current and recent technologies as appropriate for the successful and effective delivery to support the learners' needs.

3. Training Facility and Technology
Acts as lead for training facility and equipment upkeep. Ensures training facility is kept in a state of readiness and available to support training whenever needed to.
Supports introduction of new training technologies by exploring functionality and becoming proficient in the use of new devices / equipment use for training.

4. Professional Staff Development
Provides leadership in expanding and developing additional training techniques and methods while applying new training technologies including enhanced distance learning and increasing Learning Management System (LMS) capabilities. Develops own expertise and mentors' junior instructors in these new areas of instructional methods and systems.

5. Resource Planning
Conducts ongoing evaluations and makes recommendations for locations and capabilities of additional instructors as part of the global Technical Training resource strategy. Also monitors and provides input to budget and capital planning for the procurement of training facility equipment required to support advanced technical courses.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical discipline, or a minimum of 5 + years of equivalent field experience.
•Must be capable of demonstrating sound technical proficiency and knowledge of gas turbine and Turbomachinery equipment, relative balance of plant installation and equipment, and be able to understand, analyze, and communicate complex technical information in an in-person or remote instructional environment.
•Must have the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical internal and external customers and poses strong people skills.
•Must be capable of working effectively under pressure and following direction with a keen sense of urgency.
