Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: Inspects and evaluates properties and structures to ensure compliance with City of Beaumont codes and ordinances, particularly within the Oaks Historic District. Handles enforcing violations and represents the City in Municipal Court; interprets zoning, property maintenance codes, subdivision and landscaping regulations; reviews building site plans for conformance to zoning regulations and landscaping ordinances; inspects properties for compliance with specific use permits, zoning requirements, special district rules, and landscaping regulations; provides research for general infrastructure data and historical information; answers public inquires through research of city maps and records; collects property land use information; compiles information from tax records and property ownership maps; makes field verifications of land uses; collects and prepares data for computer entry; photography equipment, computer equipment and calibration equipment.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment and outside field investigations in city car and on-site visits. Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be available work overtime as needed.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

Knowledge : Knowledge of basic principles, techniques, and terminology of Code Enforcement; knowledge of the mechanics of zoning ordinances and development techniques; knowledge of City Government hierarchy and organizational structure; knowledge of computer systems and code enforcement.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to interpret written legal regulations; ability to effectively document information; ability to understand, follow, and transmit complex oral and written information; skill in performing photography work, and ability to deal with the general public in potential conflict situations; ability to learn computer systems applicable to division responsibilities.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently sits, stands, walks, writes, uses a calculator, PC, and enters data; infrequently lifts, carries, drags, pulls or pushes objects weighing up to 30 lbs.; operates automobile, camera, computer equipment, measuring equipment and office equipment.

Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of courses in general business or planning preferred. Minimum two (2) years' experience in related field. Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer preferred or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.

Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
