INTRODUCTION: Days or Nights

The Licensed Practical Nurse Charge Nurse will coordinate resident care, assign tasks to staff, and provide direct nursing care to residents. They will also document residents' health and communicate changes to physicians and supervisors.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Coordinate nursing assistant and staff duties
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents
  • Visit assigned residents regularly
  • Supervise feeding and notify physicians of changes in residents' conditions
  • Perform administrative duties such as documenting nurses' notes, assessments, and discharge plans
  • Chart pertinent information in a professional and clear manner
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents according to policy
  • Order, administer, and document medications and treatments
  • Monitor and update care plans
  • Supervise and participate in fire safety and disaster drills
  • Recognize, intervene, report and document accidents and incidents
  • Follow established procedures and maintain privacy and confidentiality
  • Attend and participate in orientation programs and training
  • Check inventory and request equipment and supplies
  • Participate in surveys by authorized government agencies
  • Monitor and participate in daily clean-up of the nurses' station
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible hours and occasional weekend work may be needed
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing for Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Current State Licensed Practical Nurse and CPR certification

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Good audio-visual and hearing abilities
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other contagious illnesses
  • Standard long-term care facility working environment
  • Above-average conversational noise is frequent
  • May require flexible hours, unscheduled overtime, or occasional weekend work
  • Must be able to speak and write in English
  • Travel may be required

Technical/other training or better in Nursing
