Job Description

Job Objective : This position is responsible for the assisting with the development, implementation and management of the after school program, ensuring high quality services are provided to participating children.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the planning, preparation and implementation of program activities
  • Create a safe and positive learning environment for the children
  • Maintain visual and auditory awareness of students to ensure their safety at all times while on The Salvation Army property
  • Assist with student check-in
  • Assist with distribution of meals and snacks according to health department guidelines
  • Maintain program routines and schedules
  • Assist with addressing instances of student misconduct
  • Communicate in an effective manner
  • Model positive disposition at all times
  • Maintain positive communication and rapport with families
  • Lead students in necessary emergency procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of spaces and report any safety issues to the After-School Program Coordinator
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records and other required documentation
  • All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum one year post-secondary education preferred

Age:Must be at least 18 years old

Experience:Minimum 1-year previous experience in childcare or education required

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and on a set schedule
  • Ability to perform duties reliably and timely
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all program stakeholders
  • Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner
Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include actively participating in activities with children, standing for extended periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence; must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to driver either a Salvation Army or personnel vehicle for Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes a classroom, gymnasium and outdoor environment.
