The ideal candidate will possess 4+ years of conducting network switching, 4+ years of conducting network routing, and a Cisco Network Certification (CCNP or CCNA).

Required Skills/Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience with network switching
  • 3+ years of experience with network routing
  • 1+ years of experience establishing and maintaining network performance
  • 1+ years of experience building net configurations and connections

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a Cisco Network Engineer to provide multiple tier network support to highly complex edge networks for assigned agencies within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will possess 4+ years of conducting network switching, 4+ years of conducting network routing, and a Cisco Network Certification (CCNP or CCNA).

The Cisco Network Engineer will be tasked to:

  • Provide technical support for planning, designing, maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure
  • Provide input into the edge networking architecture deployed throughout the Enterprise
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate well and be a highly technical and eager individual with numerous years of experience in a large environment
  • Install, configure, maintain, and manage network infrastructure consisting primarily of switches, routers, firewalls, Silver Peak SD-WAN edge appliances, wireless infrastructure, cellular-based appliances, and all associated hardware and software
  • Perform network management functions utilizing various industry tools to monitor, test, verify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network problems by working with users, service providers, business partners, and others to resolve problems
  • Assist in the planning and design of LAN/WAN network architecture, including network bandwidth analysis and capacity planning, as well as detailed specifications and schematic engineering drawings for network enhancements and modifications
  • Assist in the execution of planned deployments, and upgrade and support change management efforts within the edge networking group
  • Participate in change management efforts with agency and other edge networking teams
  • Participate in Service Now trouble ticket resolution and reporting
  • Ensure that assigned edge networking trouble tickets or incidents follow established processes and are fully documented within ServiceNow
  • Assist with Tier 2 support for widespread events and incidents to customers and other networking teams as needed
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to complex network problems, and work them to resolution, including communication to other networking teams
  • Participate in the evaluation of and make recommendations on new and emerging technologies as part of the ongoing hardware refresh cycles championed by the Edge Networking Solutions team
  • Evaluate current and future network needs and prepare technical solutions and recommendations
  • Review the development of configuration standards
  • Assist in the design of highly complex networks as well as make recommendations to optimize the edge network for maximum efficiency
  • Ensure that all existing and new networks meet or exceed the security requirements set forth by OA
  • Assist in the creation of Visio diagrams of the edge network to document new and existing network elements, especially those deemed specialty/ field networks
  • Participate in the documentation for the configuration of network components including setup, installation, and overall deployment of network hardware and software
  • Support remote IT staff with network-related issues and deployments
  • Support agency operations staff and business partners with network-related issues as needed
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with other employees, vendors, and business partners
  • Maintain an understanding of various routing protocols
  • Maintain a working knowledge of network monitoring tools and automation
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift 50 pounds and work from a step ladder
  • Manage time appropriately and engage other edge networking teams as needed or required
  • Obtain and maintain CJIS clearances
  • Operate telephones and cell phones
  • Operate a PC and peripherals, servers, and network components
  • Operate motor vehicles and maintain a valid PA driver's license
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills using the English language
  • Read and comprehend technical literature
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess issues and problems, and make appropriate decisions for resolution
