Description

The School of Health Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU Carbondale) offers term, variable time, non-tenure-track teaching appointments to qualified individuals to provide on-site clinical instruction for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students at various locations throughout Southern Illinois. Part-time PRN faculty are hired periodically throughout the year based on the needs of our program. Applications are continually evaluated throughout the year. Because our needs can change quickly, having an application completed and available for review is beneficial.

A full-time member of the BSN faculty serves as the lead instructor for the course and as a point of contact for part-time clinical faculty members. This collaborative environment creates a learning community designed to support the development of our clinical educators that are often full-time employees at the clinical sites.
Examples of Duties

Faculty will be expected to instruct students at a clinical site. Presently, the off-campus sites will be Herrin Hospital, Harrisburg Medical Center, St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, and St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Additional locations may be added throughout the year as we continue to build partnerships in our community.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Nursing, and hold a current, unencumbered nursing license (RN) in the State of Illinois by date of hire. For individuals holding a Master's degree, the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Lecturer.
  • For individuals holding a doctoral degree, the appointment will be at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor/Assistant Professor of Practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Applicants with clinical practice, teaching experience, and/or simulation experience in Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Geriatrics, and/or Adult Nursing are encouraged to apply.
