We are assisting our client, Community Action for Improvement Inc., with the recruitment and selection of a strategic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer. Community Action for Improvement, Inc. (CAFI) is a private non-profit organization founded in 1966. CAFI has provided services for over 25 years to low-income individuals in five-county service area including Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup counties.

This position is on site and located in Lagrange, Georgia, with some flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement. The CFO provides supervision, direction and training for assigned staff, including but not limited to the Fiscal Director, IT, Accountant, Accounts Payable, and Head Start Fiscal Manager.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing and “steering” the financial operations of CAFI. The CFO will provide financial leadership to chart the future of the Agency in accordance with its mission and vision. CFO will apply critical management and leadership skills including financial projections, scenario planning, varied analyses and risk assessments. The CFO should be comfortable with a focus on continuous improvement and development of organizational systems, policies, and practices. The CFO will support the Chief Executive Officer, oversee the finance and accounting team, and ensure that CAFI's financial management is in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. The CFO will be knowledgeable of Community Action and its foundation in order to help the Agency remain true to its origins.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement financial strategies, plans, and policies to support CAFI's mission and goals.

Build CAFI’s financial stability and strengthen financial operations.

Provide financial leadership and guidance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and program directors to ensure sound financial decision-making.

Oversee the preparation and management of CAFI's annual budget, including revenue projections, expense tracking, and cash flow forecasting.

Manage CAFI's accounting and financial reporting systems, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP, IRS, and other regulatory requirements.

Supervise and mentor the finance, accounting, and IT team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations as needed.

Oversee the management of CAFI's financial assets and investments, ensuring that they are managed in accordance with established policies and procedures; oversee and manage capital assets, including the inventory process.

Collaborate with CAFI's fundraising and development team to support grant writing and reporting and assist with financial reporting to donors and funders.

Provide financial analysis and reporting to support strategic decision-making by the CEO and Board of Directors.

Manage relationships with external financial partners, including banks, auditors, and legal counsel.

Oversees the development of new programs and grant budgets to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization needs.

Responsible for achieving goals set forth in Agency Strategic Plan, including creating successful investment strategies; assist CEO in diversifying funding streams and identifying new sources of non-governmental funding.

Responsible for overseeing all financial operations and reporting directly to the Board of Directors on matters of financial fidelity to ensure the financial health and stability of the organization.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

B.S. in Business Administration or Accounting required. Master’s degree preferred

Broad and extensive professional work experience in financial analysis work, including experience with non-profit agency financial and including at least five (5) years in a management capacity

10 years of accounting experience

5 years of experience working with government grants

Experience with, and ability to, collaborate with Board of Directors

Ability to lead and communicate with diverse staff

Bilingual (Spanish or Korean) a plus

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position including, but not be limited to the following:

Office environment – use of office equipment including computer, telephone, copier/printer.

Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period.

Frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
