Salary Range

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division, working as a team member on site as Fluid Dynamicist supporting Acoustics Technology Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, West Bethesda. Duties include, but not limited to: Research and study high Reynolds number, impressible flow field that leads to generation of underwater sound Research CFD modeling on large and detached eddy simulations of external flow turbulent boundary layers and internal flows with complex geometries Investigate and develop unsteady fluid structure interaction and multi-phase flow simulation Collaborate with physical experiments performed at wind/water tunnels and scaled ship prototypes to validate numerical hydroacoustics models Produce technical documents and reports. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Physics 3-5 years of research experience desired Job experience in the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus. SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Understanding of high Reynolds number turbulent flows and fluid structure interaction Knowledge of CFD modeling and simulation tools and process Knowledge of acoustics measurement system Knowledge of advanced signal processing Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing Able to travel to naval research and development facilities. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation.
