Summary/Objective
The Medical Technologist - MT provides Laboratory services to patients in accordance with accepted practices and Departmental and Hospital standards of care. The Medical Technologist must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

  • Maintains high degree of competency in the operation of equipment in the performance of Laboratory Services testing to include trouble-shooting, machine repair, preventive maintenance of instrumentation, while maintaining adequate inventory of reagents and supplies.
  • Assists in quality assurance by utilizing the online Variance reporting and participates in quality control, performance improvement and proficiency testing activities within the Department.
  • Facilitates communication within the Laboratory Department, as well as Laboratory Services and other members hospital family, and physicians to enhance patient care services.
  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge of Laboratory Services principles in the provision of diagnostic services, while processing reliable test results to include analysis, calculations and reporting results, utilizing critical skills related to results and the patient's clinical condition.
  • Performs routine shift start-up, including quality controls and documentation of these controls, performs appropriate shift maintenance of instrumentation. Utilizes specialized knowledge of Laboratory Services principles in performing general duties.
  • Notifies physician and/or other members of the health care team of corrected results in a timely manner with appropriate documentation in the computer system, and notifies charge nurse of Critical results in a timely manner with immediate reporting, documenting time, name of person and read back verification in the computer system

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in related field or current credentials as MLS or CLS
Completion of approved training program for Medical Technologist preferred
Clinical laboratory setting experience within the last 10 years
Required License/Certifications
Must be CLIA qualified for high complexity testing. ASCP certification or certification eligibility
