Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Electronic Hardware and control design, with expertise in DSP and/or FPGA system integration.
Responsibilities:

  • Design and Testing: Develop and test SiC-based power electronic converter topologies, including active rectifiers, isolated DC-DC converters, solid-state transformers, and high-speed motor drives.
  • Control Algorithms: Design and test DSP-based digital control algorithms, FPGA modulators, and PLC-based high-level system controllers.
  • PCB Design: Create detailed PCB designs, including SiC gate drivers, system control PCBs, and support hardware.
  • Digital Control: Develop detailed digital control PCB designs, integrating FPGAs, A/D converters, and communication protocols such as CAN, RS485, Modbus, and high-speed fiber.
  • Embedded Control: Design embedded control algorithms, harmonic compensators, software PLLs, and other embedded algorithms.
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop: Develop Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop test setups, control PCBs, and control algorithms.
  • Medium Voltage Power Distribution: Experience with medium voltage power distribution, solid-state transformers, and printed circuit board design is highly desirable.
  • Documentation: Create, review, and issue prototype and production-level electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Technical Writing: Write and/or review patents, whitepapers, and technical conference/journal articles focused on electrical engineering.
Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in designing and testing SiC-based power electronic converter topologies.
  • Strong experience with DSP-based digital control algorithms, FPGA modulators, and PLC-based system controllers.
  • Extensive knowledge of PCB design, including SiC gate drivers, system control PCBs, and support hardware.
  • Expertise in digital control PCB designs, including integration of FPGAs, A/D converters, and communication protocols (CAN, RS485, Modbus, high-speed fiber).
  • Ability to design embedded control algorithms and harmonic compensators.
  • Experience with medium voltage power distribution and solid-state transformers.
  • Proficiency in creating and reviewing electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong technical writing skills for patents, whitepapers, and technical articles.
  • Citizenship: United States Citizenship required due to US Government ITAR program restrictions.
  • Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a minimum 3.3 GPA. MS and PhDs are a plus.
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Highly Desirable Experience:
  • Motor Drives and Converters: Designing and/or controlling motor drives, AC-DC, and DC-AC converters.
  • High-Speed Communications: Development with high-performance FPGAs.
  • Programming: Experience programming various microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs.
  • Specific Technologies: Direct work with TI C2000 DSPs and Altera FPGAs.
  • HIL Platforms: Hands-on experience with OPAL-RT, Typhoon, or other Hardware-in-the-Loop platforms.

Immediate Projects:
  • High Power Device Design: Integration of SiC and Silicon power devices into converters/inverters.
  • Isolated DC-DC Converters: Design of medium voltage (MV) isolated DC-DC converters.
  • Control Algorithms: FPGA and DSP development for AC-DC and DC-DC control algorithms.
  • Power Levels: Design and development of converters/inverters with power levels ranging from 50kW to 500kW, with the capability to link them for higher power levels up to megawatts (MWs).
  • HIL Development: Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop development using Typhoon and PLECS for a modular multi-level converter and real-time model implementations.

Applications: Projects for Navy (surface and submarine), Army vehicles and infrastructure, and aircraft.
This position involves contributing to innovative projects focused on advanced power electronic hardware and control design, playing a critical role in diverse and high-impact applications.
