General Information:

The University Health Center provides a comprehensive array of health care services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. UHC practices evidence-based medicine in a confidential, inclusive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will function as a primary care provider for acute care illness and injury of college age students primarily in the appointment clinic with occasional rotation in the urgent care clinic, at a comfortable pace with adequate time for health care and education.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Advanced practice nursing degree and Registered Nurse degree from an accredited nursing school or department or master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (or equivalent).
- NP/PA with current Virginia provider license and prescriptive authority and DEA license.
- Primary care clinical experience, college-age group preferred.
- Ability to work well with college-age students in a friendly, student-focused and, at times, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide education to students at the time of appointments and occasionally as a guest speaker in health science classes or other outreach venues on campus.
- Excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues and other JMU faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the use of an electronic health record system (EHR) and use of the system to maintain documentation of the student's medical information. The UHC is a paper-free health care facility.
- Ability to use multiple software programs, primarily Microsoft Office including Outlook email and calendar, and the internet.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
