NY HELPS:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply and complete a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Individuals certified eligible for the 55-b/c program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55-b/c of the Civil Service Law are encouraged to apply. To be considered, 55-b/c candidates must provide a copy of their letter of eligibility with their response and meet the NY HELPS minimum qualifications listed below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate how they meet the minimum qualifications in the cover letter or resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.
No Exam Required under NY HELPS.
• One year of clerical experience required.

• Currently reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Office Assistant 2 in this location.
• 70.1 Transfer: You must be a qualified employee of New York State and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, which requires one year of permanent, competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in a title allocated to a Grade 7. For transfers, a list of approved titles is available through Civil Service GOT-IT at The GOT-IT site will inform you if your title requires special qualifications for transfer as detailed above.
• 52.7 NON-COMPETITIVE PROMOTION (NCP) QUALIFICATIONS: As required by the New York State Department of Civil Service, we are posting for this position to determine if there are any qualified OAG employees interested in a permanent appointment to the position. If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the position who meet the promotion minimum qualifications, a permanent appointment can be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. The promotion minimum qualifications are: one year of permanent competitive service as an Office Assistant 1.
Duties Description • Answer questions from and provide information to various parties regarding agency activities, transactions, and procedures. Refer inquiries as necessary.
• Operate various communication systems such as telephones and computers; and keep records of such communications.
• Operate, and perform basic cleaning and maintenance on, office machines and equipment. Clear paper jams in copiers, scanners, and printers; replace toner cartridges; and clean keyboards and screens.
• Schedule appointments and meetings using various office tools.
• Perform routine processing activities, including checking forms for completeness and accuracy.
• Design clerical processing procedures.
• Gather, compile, and prepare data from manual or automated files and other sources for various reports, publications, records, or other external or internal communications.
• Respond to questions concerning the operation of the unit or program area.
• Write responses to correspondence.
• Resolve work problems.
• Review forms and applications and make appropriate determinations.
• Coordinate arrangements for meetings, courses, and other gatherings arrange for rooms, take attendance, and ensure that appropriate materials and equipment are available.
• Other duties as assigned.
Some Office Assistant 2 positions may include supervisory duties.

The agency's hours of operation are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:30 pm (37.5 hours/week).
