The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care's nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services. The department of Orthopedics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the hand team. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with other APPs, residents, and hand surgeons within the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. The APP will be expected to provide outstanding care to patients in the outpatient settings as well as demonstrate proficiency in the operating room and ambulatory surgery center, although position will be mostly clinical. Clinical duties include seeing new, return, and post-operative patients in addition to preforming preoperative physical examinations.
Position Responsibilities:

  • The APP will be expected to deliver excellent care, preform and interpret diagnostic testing (X-rays, advanced imaging, labs), perform injections, and prescribe, dispense, or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
  • It is expected that the APP show a willingness to learn, collaborate with a team, and provide cross coverage for the team when needed.
  • Supervise the care delivered to patients.
  • Perform /order medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures,
  • Prescribe, dispense, and/or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.
  • Consult/collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues while influencing others to adopt best practices.
  • Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for EMR and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.
  • Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
  • Establish and maintain procedures and systems to ensure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.
No call is expected for this role.
Education Requirements:
  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of patient care experience gained through education, job experience, or rotations is required.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is required.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with work injury patients.
  • Experience working in an orthopedic setting.
