Summary
The Junior Web Programmer position involves assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the county's web presence. Responsibilities include collaborating with the team to design and implement user-friendly and visually appealing interfaces for county websites and web applications. The role also involves addressing basic technical issues, supporting the efficiency and accessibility of digital services for residents and stakeholders. The Junior Web Programmer helps promote communication and engagement between the county government and the community through online platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primarily focuses on design and provides assistance in the development of user interfaces for websites operated by Macon-Bibb County Government.
  • Actively communicates with different department agencies to understand their needs and assist in discovering possibilities to reduce their workload through effective web solutions.
  • Assists Develop and test web-based applications utilizing the principles of the software development life cycle.
  • Document changes to existing code for successful deployment to production systems
  • Support and maintain systems within the established service level agreement for the applicable system.
Education, Training and Experience
The Junior Web Programmer should possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; and at least one year of experience in website management; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Special requirements
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Applicant must not have a State or Federal criminal conviction record.
  • Applicant must be fingerprinted and pass a local background check conducted by the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff Department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understands UI/UX design principles and tools, able to create wireframes and prototypes using software like Photoshop.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Applies responsive design principles to ensure websites function well across different devices and screen sizes.
  • Possesses knowledge of web technologies including HTTP/HTTPS protocols, RESTful APIs, JSON, and XML.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills to collaborate with team members, interact with clients, and effectively convey design ideas.
  • Skilled in managing content using Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress
  • Applies problem-solving skills to identify design issues and propose solutions for improvement.
  • Works effectively in team settings, collaborating with developers, and other team members.
  • Basic understanding of web security principles, ensuring awareness of common vulnerabilities.
  • Possesses adaptability to learn and adapt to new technologies and design trends.
  • Exhibits presentation skills to confidently present design concepts and ideas to clients and stakeholders.
