Position Role and Ideal Candidate:

The Primary Role of a Boat Operator is to operate the following types of vessels:

Truck-able tug boats
Flat Boats
Crew Boats
Mud Boats

The ideal candidate possess' the following qualities and skills:

Dependable, Experienced, and Competent
Proficient in handling and operating boats
Familiar with boating terminology
Familiar with water and boating safety
Familiar with handling boats (launching, mooring, etc.)
Resume must include information demonstrating past boating experience.

Responsibilities:

Provide project support steering boats/barges around project site
Push equipment and material barges around project site
Load & transport staff, equipment, supplies, and material in a safe manner
Transport and transfer fuel incompliance with safe fuel transfer procedures
Perform pre and post trip inspections (i.e. check fluid levels, check for leaks, inspect bilges, inspect motor, check safety gear, inspect boat for damage, etc.), in addition to cleaning (interior and exterior) and routine maintenance of the boat
Keep accurate daily logs and maintain record books
Properly and safely fender, moor, and anchor boat/barge
Maintain proper safety equipment onboard & check prior to each trip
Provide support in rescue operations
Prevent boat/barge from engaging in unsafe operations and avoid other marine traffic and hazards.
Use specialized knowledge of local winds, weather, water depths, tides, currents, and hazards to operate vessel safely
Other duties and projects assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of experience
Must have experience maneuvering barges while operating a tug boat
Captain’s License is preferred
Must have completed LDWF-approved boater education course (must provide certificate of completion)
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have steel toe work boots
Pass applicable pre-employment screenings (including but not limited to drug test & physical)
Possess a valid TWIC card
Must have reliable transportation
Must be punctual and reliable
High School Diploma, GED or Vocational training
