(2) The CNS shall be licensed by the State Board of Registered Nursing as a CNS, pursuant to, Article 9, of Chapter 6, of Division 2, of the California Business and Professions Code. (3) Have at least three years’ full-time of clinical experience in neonatal nursing in a NICU that is equivalent to a Regional or Community NICU. (4) Have current certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing from a nationally accredited organization i.e., NCC or the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN); or certified by AACN as a Neonatal CNS. (5) Have evidence of current instructor status by the NRP of the AAP and the AHA. (6) Previous Charge Experience (7) Will be expected to understand NICU quality metrics, tracking, and interpretation (Focusing on decreasing chronic lung disease, hospital acquired infections, and improving thermoregulation, and healthy work environment. The Community CNS shall be responsible for: (1) Directing the clinical nursing practice in the NICU; (2) Coordinating and assessing critical care education development and clinical competency of the nursing staff in the NICU; and ensuring continued competency through educational programs for both the newly hired and experienced nursing staff; (3) Consulting with staff on complex neonatal critical care nursing issues; (4) Oversight of comprehensive parent and/or primary caretaker education activities; and (5) Ensuring implementation of a coordinated and effective discharge planning program.
