Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Hardware Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting the development of advanced airborne systems including podded communication link and sensor
systems, airborne armament equipment, alternate mission equipment, cockpit displays, avionics, and radar systems.
Additionally, this role will support the integration of new and existing systems onto airborne, shipborne, and ground vehicles.
Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple Department of Defense (DoD) customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career.
The Mechanical Engineer II will support the development of new products and test hardware, as well as the improvement of existing products.
The engineer will utilize their mechanical engineering skills during the proposal and concept evaluation, product development, production, and qualification testing phases of new product design.

Job Responsibilities:
The engineer will create design solutions that meet product requirements using 3-D CAD modeling software and will be hands-on supporting production, integration, and testing.
The engineer will develop solutions that leverage commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products paired with custom hardware.
The engineer must be capable of researching and distilling information from vendors and collating information.
The engineer shall support design reviews, equipment integration, profiling, and testing.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide input on mechanical issues to the project team, working closely with the lead mechanical, systems, electrical, and test engineers.
The engineer should be familiar with structural, thermal, and fatigue analysis and testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems in extreme environments.
Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have proven experience analyzing systems using techniques from hand calculations to analysis software such as finite element analysis software or computational fluid dynamics.
Typical assessments include analysis for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, fatigue (low and high cycle) and fracture mechanics, linear and non-linear thermo-elastic behavior, and thermal margin.
Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have proven experience instrumenting or executing environmental testing of mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic systems, including data capture, analysis, and correlation.
Typical testing is done in accordance with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160.
In addition to their technical skills, the ideal candidate leverages strong verbal and written communication to adapt to a wide variety of high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Required Skills:
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance
Ability to work onsite at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility with an Integrated Product Team being hands-on with hardware – not afraid to use tools, assemble prototypes, etc.
A minimum of two years of professional work experience is required.
Experience in the design, integration, or testing of mechanical components and assemblies
Competent in using 3-D CAD Modeling Tools (CREO preferred)
Experience using Finite Element Analysis Software (ANSYS preferred)
Experience using Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis Software
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, (ASME Y14.5 standards)
Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments
Experience capturing key characteristics & requirements for systems
Performing trade studies
Must be a self-starter, a quick learner, be able to function in a dynamic environment, and have good time management skills.
Must have strong teaming skills, and good communication

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program
