Position Highlights: CT8 Cardio/Pulm/Med/Surg

• Number of beds on unit: 50 beds divided between two sections - A side with 24 beds and B side with 26 beds
• Patient population: Primarily cardiac patients with cardiac drips, post cardiac procedures, pulmonary patients, and medical-surgical overflow with a variety of diagnoses. Adult population over 17 years of age.
• Department culture and resources: Fast-paced unit with medically complex patients. Supportive teamwork is crucial. New and experienced team members empower each other to drive new patient care initiatives and promote a culture of inclusion.
• Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Skills include full assessments, management of cardiac drips, cardiac device interrogation, pre and post procedural care, administration of medication via multiple routes, and communication with interdisciplinary teams. Equipment used includes IV pumps, telemetry monitoring, wound vacs, tube feeding pumps, Zoll defibrillator, and electronic EMR.

• Passes all medications, hangs IV piggybacks and fluids, excluding IV Push meds.
• Charts assessments on assigned patients, given that an RN has charted the initial assessment.
• Communicates with physicians/APPs to receive orders and coordinate care for patient.
• Reinforce education and discharge instructions.
