About the Division of Child and Family Well-Being:
At NC DHHS the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (DCFW) focuses on supporting whole child and family health and well-being for North Carolinians. DCFW works to ensure that North Carolina's children grow up safe, healthy and thriving in nurturing and resilient families and communities. DCFW has complementary Public Health and Mental health programming that maximize services and outcomes for children and their families, including nutrition programs (SNAP, WIC and Child and Adult Care Food Program), health and prevention services for children and youth, children's behavioral health services, and early intervention programs.
The primary purpose of the Nutritionist position is to provide comprehensive, complex nutrition evaluation and treatment services to children ages birth to three with a variety of medical/nutritional problems and developmental disabilities, chronic illnesses, or those characterized as medically high risk who are referred to or enrolled in the Infant Toddler Program. Services must be provided in compliance with Federal and State regulations for the Infant/Toddler Program.
Who are we?

  • The North Carolina Early Intervention Section is a part of the Division of Child and Family Well-Being. It is the lead agency for the N.C. Infant-Toddler Program which provides supports and services for families and their children, birth to three, who have developmental delays and/or disabilities.
  • Children's Developmental Services Agencies (CDSAs) are the local agencies that implement the NC ITP across North Carolina, working with local service providers to help families help their children succeed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:
  • Must be a licensed Dietitian in the state of North Carolina or eligible to obtain licensure.
  • Experience interviewing and counseling parents/caregivers regarding nutrition.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining quality standards of nutrition care using current standards and practice.
  • Experience in utilizing a range of pediatric nutrition intervention techniques to reach nutritional and developmental outcomes.
Management Preferences:
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary pediatric setting.
  • Experience providing nutritional services via a virtual platform.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to travel throughout assigned area via car, and access client homes and other community locations

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in dietetics, public health nutrition, or nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of related experience and holding the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics;
OR
Bachelor's degree in dietetics, public health nutrition, or nutrition from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience and holding the credential of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
