Senior Director, Major Gifts City Year Seattle / King County

We seek an accomplished, community-centered fundraiser who is committed to education equity to serve as our Senior Director, Major Gifts. Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, this person will be a key member of the Development Team and lead all aspects of our individual giving strategy, including managing a Development Communications and Operations Manager. City Year Seattle / King County is launching a multi-year funding campaign to grow revenue in service of Seattle students and the AmeriCorps Members we serve. We have built a strong foundation for individual giving and are looking to expand our efforts in this area through the energy and skills of a new Senior Director.

This role will manage the individual giving program including a portfolio of donors that are able to give 10K+ and supervise one staff position, our Development Communications and Operations Manager. We are seeking a colleague who is motivated by City Year Seattle’s commitment to become an anti-racist and youth centered organization and excited to join us in reimagining how we approach our individual giving work in a way that centers and celebrates the communities we serve. A successful candidate will be a strong relationship builder with experience managing and growing long-term relationships with a portfolio of donors, who is excited by the opportunity to take a strong individual giving program to the next level. Over the past three years, we have re-qualified our individual giving portfolio and currently see gift revenue in the range of $400,000 annually from this portfolio. However, we know that the potential exists to significantly increase giving from this cohort and are seeking a fundraising leader who is excited by the challenge of growing the impact of our individual donor community.

Salary for this role: $100,000-$105,000

Donor Management

Lead individual giving program, managing portfolio of donors able to give $10,000 or more.

Strategically grow the top tier of our portfolio, donors capable of giving $100,000 or more.

The majority of the portfolio will consist of current donors, ripe for deeper engagement and increased giving. A portion of the portfolio will be new or lapsed, qualification prospects with the goal of growing the overall individual giving cohort.

Creatively build and execute engagement strategies that are aligned the philanthropic goals of our individual donors as well as valued by our school and staff communities.

Bring a community-centric fundraising mindset and tactics to build trusting partnerships with donors and center our community of students, schools and AmeriCorps members in funding strategy and donor engagement activities.

Collaborate with colleagues at City Year Seattle/King County, including Development teammates, the Executive Director, Board Members, Program Staff, and AmeriCorps Members, to build strategies and engage funders.

Strategically increase gift revenue from donors by soliciting multi-year gifts and working to grow donors’ impact with gifts that align with their capacity

Enter contact reports in a timely manner and utilize City Year’s prospect management database

Work intentionally towards a metric of 100 substantive contacts per year with portfolio prospects.

Major Gifts Team Management and Strategy

Directly manage one position, our Development Communications and Operations Manager.

In collaboration with the MD of Development, lead all aspects of the individual donor strategy — Including event and engagement strategies, annual giving and mid-level giving, and alumni relations initiatives.

Ensure that individual giving practices are aligned to City Year Seattle / King County’s community-centric fundraising commitments.

Stewardship and Events

Own and lead stewardship processes and programs.

Ensure highly customized, ongoing stewardship and recognition for all major donors.

In collaboration with full development team, maintain accurate records and donor information in database (Salesforce).

Work with development team colleagues to leverage City Year Seattle/King County events, including our annual spring event, to increase overall giving. Oversee and influence major giving donor cultivation events aimed at engaging potential donors.

Site and Network Collaboration and Strategy

Participate in all site-wide activities including staff meetings, training, Race and Equity Summits, service days and more.

Participate in long-term planning discussion and support development team strategy.

City Year Seattle / King County is part of a national organization that operates in 29 cities around the country. Participate in network wide community learning groups. Collaborate with individual giving staff from other sites or HQ as needed to drive donor strategies forward.

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years of fundraising experience with a preference for experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding leadership gifts of $10,000 or more.

Experience managing a portfolio of relationships.

Experience qualifying new prospects through meetings, cold calls and other means.

Personal and professional commitment to engaging in race and equity work.

Excitement about joining our team in re-imagining new best practices that center the communities we serve.

Management experience preferred.

Strong interpersonal communications skills, verbal and written; ability to deliver inspiring and succinct presentations and conduct productive meetings.

Effective collaborator within the development team and across the site with our Impact and Operations colleagues, as well with our Executive Director and Board of Advisors.

Experience with Salesforce or another CRM platform preferred.

Experience planning and executing successful individual donor cultivation and retention events, as well as annual fundraisers.

Ability and interest in collaborating with staff and leadership across the organization
