Job Summary
The DC Safety Coordinator position is responsible for driving and ensuring safety awareness of the distribution center on all shifts. In this strategic safety support role, you will closely support distribution center leadership and the company Safety Director in developing and implementing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, procedures, training, inspections, and audits. The safety coordinator will ensure DC safety and security measures are followed, as well as monitor, support, and issue associate and contractor access badges. Assist with environmental, health and safety (EHS) inspections of the distribution center. Drive consistency with safety incident investigations, fact finding, data collection and root cause analysis, and corrective actions. You will drive pro-active safety culture engagement through risk mitigation and addressing unsafe behaviors and hazards in the workplace.
Key Responsibilities

  • Promote safety awareness and cultivate distribution center safety culture. Works cooperatively and harmoniously with distribution center management, supervisors, leads co-workers, and support departments.
  • Understand and ensure regulatory compliance with all state and federal regulatory laws and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Completes assigned safety projects and tasks independently and work well within a team environment.
  • Conduct safety training (new hire, refresher, job specific, powered industrial truck) sessions for associates and contractors.
  • Inspects working conditions to ensure all areas and activities are compliant with health and safety guidelines.
  • Prepares ad hoc safety reports detailing inspection process and other activities.
  • Coordinates accident investigations, safety review meetings and safety committee meetings as needed.
  • Suggests revisions to operational process methods and employee activity that does not meet health and safety expectations.
  • Addresses any workplace related health and safety issues and accidents.
  • Collaborate closely with distribution center leadership to monitor compliance and identify health and safety issues.
  • Daily monitoring reports and impacts in i-warehouse software. (site specific)
  • Ensure all powered industrial truck (PIT) safety training records are current and perform weekly checks for accuracy.
  • Keep work areas safe, organized, and clean according to general warehousing/office practices and OSHA requirements daily.
  • Conduct health and safety audits on operational compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in post-injury and incident investigations and evaluations.
  • Inspects lift safety equipment such as fire exits, emergency lights, fire suppression systems, fire Extinguishers, first Aid Kits, emergency eye washes, and other safety equipment.
  • Coordinates safety training for associates with Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), classroom, and floor practical certifications.
  • Performs security functions, such as monitor associates when entering the building, issue badges and other security functions as needed.
  • Lead and drive participation on the DC safety committee on all shifts.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Possesses strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Prior Environmental, Health and Safety Experience in distribution center environments
  • Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency response protocols.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills.
  • Possess solid problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent attendance and willingness to be part of a team - performing whatever duties are necessary.
  • MS Office Proficient: Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel (Intermediate to Advanced)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary
  • Ability to multitask and possess research skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, ability to work under pressure, and be a fast learner.
  • Flexibility to work and support DC shift schedules as required.
  • Independent worker with ability to manage own workload with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Experience: Prior safety and warehouse experience required
Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software: Warehouse management system terminal, calculator, fax machine, copier, and telephone. Microsoft office with intermediate Excel focus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 Hour or 30 Hour Certifications.
  • Bachelors / associate degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Work hours may vary based on safety support /training needs and operational schedules.
A Safety Coordinator is supportive in ensuring that warehouse staff receive the necessary safety support and training to excel in their roles, contributing to the overall safety of the warehouse operations. They assist in delivering effective safety support and training for the operation team's efforts.
