Description of Work
This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located in Greenville - Pitt County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $22.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 2511 West Fifth St., Greenville, NC 27834.
The duties of this position include receiving or procuring specimens; preparing specimens for testing; processing specimens; assisting and/or performing laboratory tests; interpreting test results; and monitoring of test procedures, quality control and test interpretation. Work may include coordination of daily operational functions in the laboratory. Work may include training and orientation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
NOTE: Qualified applicants must meet and CLEARLY reflect on their application training and experience and all knowledge, skills, abilities, and any experience or competencies specified in the posting and/or supplemental question(s) to be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of the physiological processes being monitored and how the medical laboratory science is applied.
  • Considerable knowledge of the test procedures performed in the laboratory.
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laboratory instrumentation, equipment and terminology.
  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards of working with potentially infectious materials and the appropriate precautions to take to avoid infection.
  • Skill in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to make accurate observations and make written reports of test results.
  • Ability to perceive colors normally.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; or
High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
